Using the Creatrix deck
As an intuitive reader, deck collector and lover of spiritual images, I love to get my hands on a new divination deck. I like to open the deck, look briefly at each card, and do a reading for myself.
I did this with the “Creatrix, Anything is Possible Activation Cards” by Melissa Harris, and immediately fell in love with this deck. It has everything I want in a divination system: beautiful images that stay in my mind, and a well thought out method for using the deck. Of course, the art is fabulous, as is everything I have seen from Melissa Harris. Her “soft-edged” paintings celebrating moments of women’s empowerment are a natural for a deck like this one, aimed at empowering women. But, even more exciting than the art, is the way that the images illustrate the intention and meaning of each card. In this, Harris proves that painting is only one of her creative talents: she is also an excellent writer and teacher.
She calls these “Activation Cards,” and in the accompanying booklet, sets up the structure for using them to activate your best self. The four suits (Invocation, Keys, Grace, and Initiation) are designed to help you understand the essential meaning of what is happening in your life. Plus, there is a Wild Card to remind you that no matter what, you are loved. The short text that goes with each card offers questions and a perspective on possible meanings of the card for you right now. One is encouraged to use intuition and knowledge of the various aspects of a situation to decide on the actual meaning, and then to allow intuition to help you move through any issues. The little booklet offers some powerful ways to read these cards based on what you want to know at the present moment, and also tells how to incorporate the 4 elements of air, fire, water and earth into the interpretation.
The structure of this system is unlike any I have ever seen, and I like it a lot. Harris spent a great deal of time working out the “what”, “why” and “how to use” of this deck, developing it over her years of teaching and empowering women in workshop settings. There is an underlying assumption that anyone using the cards sincerely wants to use intuition and guidance as essential resources for life, and I love that. As one who relies on intuition and guidance, adding this deck to my daily routine has been a profound blessing. I am so glad I have this deck, it has become my new favorite! Karen Crane, CO
