Would you enjoy painting the beauty of the Southwest with a group of like minded souls?

Is your heart calling you to a new adventure?

How would you like an art retreat in a landscape that is profound in it’s color and beauty?

This is a great opportunity to visit the place that Georgia O’Keefe lived and work.  See what inspired her! All skill levels welcome. Explore the lively, transparent medium of watercolor. We will work with the unique properties of this magical medium through transparent washes and layering, brushwork, and incorporate areas of untouched paper for brilliance. We will discuss materials, skills, color theory, and compositions. individualized instruction and demos are included. Drawing experience is helpful but not necessary.

We will combine traditional watercolor technique and plein air (from life in the beautiful natural surroundings) with working from photographs, meditation and guided visualization.  By working in this manner you will experience a newfound confidence in accessing your visions with a better ability to be able to execute them. Discover more of your ability to find inspiration in all areas of your life which can be integrated into your artistic expression.  Melissa will help participants to access what it is that they would like or need to express and to find their own unique language of expression.  Also included will be discussions on inspirational artists, sharings on our creative processes, and consideration of technique and style.

You can paint in a very controlled detailed manner or let yourself go with a very loose and impressionistic approach. The beauty of watercolor painting lies in its fresh, transparent effect look. Students will gain an understanding of how to navigate the unpredictability of this luminous medium.”
